To qualify as a 'little gem', a film has to score on at least some of these criteria: |

| it must have been undeservedly overlooked or even damned at the time of release | |||||||||||
|
there should be imaginative treatment of themes, characters or issues |
|||||||||||
| some or all of: good performances, dialogue, photography, direction, plot, music | |||||||||||
| there should be wit and humour -which doesn't rule out slapstick! | |||||||||||
| the actors and/or director may well have been underrated | |||||||||||
